The Arizona Outlaws defeated San Diego Skates 11-9 in the first game of the new MWHL season. Justin Havriliak scored there goals for the visiting Outlaws while Sam Somers and Chris Georgics had two goals each for the Skates.
The Skates built an early two goal lead on goals from Georgios and Steve Jackson. But Havriliak netted a pair within a minute to even the score. The Skates regained the lead with a goal by Joe Fortunato, extended it with another Georgios goal, but allowed the Outlaws to draw within one on a goal by Brycen Fisher with four minutes left in the period.
The Outlaws wasted no time tying the game in the second period thanks to a goal at 19:02 by Dom Panetta. The Skates fired right back a minute later with a goal by Somers. But the Outlaws struck twice in less than a minute with goals by Panetta and Fisher to take a one goal lead. Charlie Fox extended the Outlaws’ lead late in the period, but the Skates used goals by Somers and Sam Deschepper to knot the game heading into the second intermission.
The Outlaws scored at 16:06 of the third period to take the lead. The seesaw continued with goals by Fortunato of the Skates, Keanen Romero of the Outlaws, and Pat Miello of the Skates. But Havriliak broke the Skates with a goal at 2:05 followed by an empty-net insurance goal by Panetta to seal the win.
